Does Red Deer have an airport?

Last updated March 12, 2021 by ZagBot Comment

Red Deer Regional Airport is located in the hamlet of Springbrook, Alberta, some 6 nautical miles (or 11 kilometers) southwest of the city of Red Deer.

Built during World War II as a flight training school for British Commonwealth forces, the base later became Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Penhold. The City of Red Deer operated the airport from 1965, and on September 1, 1999, ownership transferred from the Province of Alberta to the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority. When the military base was decommissioned in 1994, the residential section, called Mynarski Park, was redeveloped to create the community of Springbrook, and the remainder turned into the Harvard Park industrial park.

Air Canada operated flights three times daily between Calgary and Red Deer until the service was discontinued in November 2018.
