Where is George Formby buried?

Last updated February 20, 2021 by ZagBot Comment

British musician and comedy actor George Formby is buried in the Roman Catholic Section B of Warrington Cemetery on Manchester Road in Warrington, Cheshire.

Famed ukulele player Formby, whose real name was George Hoy Booth, died on 6 March 1961, aged 56. He is buried with his parents, George and Eliza, in a grave that was already marked with a large white marble memorial for his predeceased father. On the day of his funeral on 10 March 1961, thousands lined the route of his funeral procession to Liverpool’s St Charles Catholic Church, and his interment later in Warrington.

The younger Formby and his mother had attended the unveiling of his father’s memorial at the cemetery in October 1922, which bears a carved relief image of George Formby senior, who was also a well-known musical and comedy entertainer in Britain.
