The New York Islanders NHL ice hockey team plays its home games at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, some 20 miles (or 32 kilometers) east of Manhattan.
Situated next to the Belmont Park horse racing facility, the newly-built arena opened in November 2021 and the Islanders played their inaugural home game there against the Calgary Flames.
Previously, they played from 1972 to 2015 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, before moving to Barclays Center in Brooklyn. With a core fan base on Long Island and Eastern Queens, the Brooklyn move didn’t work out commercially for the Isles. So, the team split its home games between the Barclays Center and a renovated Coliseum from 2018 to 2020, and played all of their 2020-21 season home schedule at the Coliseum.
