When was Wembley Stadium rebuilt?

Last updated January 19, 2022 by ZagBot Comment

The new Wembley Stadium in Wembley, north-west London, was built between 2003 and 2007, on the site of the original Wembley Stadium, which was demolished between 2002 and 2003.

Owned by England’s governing body of football, the Football Association (or FA), the new Wembley was expected to be completed in time for the FA Cup final in May 2006, but, beset by construction problems and delays, it wasn’t finished until March 2007. In the meantime, FA Cup Finals between 2001 and 2006 were hosted at the Millennium Stadium (now called the Principality Stadium) in Cardiff, Wales.

A 134-metre- (or 440-foot-) high arch over the stadium is a load-bearing structure, but has also become an easily identifiable landmark visible from many miles away.
