What rivers run through Winnipeg?

Last updated March 13, 2021 by ZagBot Comment

Winnipeg, Manitoba, sits at the confluence of the Red River and Assiniboine Rivers.

At Winnipeg, the northbound Red River, and the Assiniboine River flowing from the west, meet at a point called The Forks to form the mainstem Red River which continues north into Lake Winnipeg which then drains via the Nelson River into Hudson Bay.

The Assiniboine River rises 500 kilometers (or 310 miles) to the northwest in eastern Saskatchewan, while the Red River (also called the Red River of the North) begins 405 kilometers (or 251 miles) to the south in the United States at the confluence of the Bois de Sioux and Otter Tail rivers between the states of Minnesota and North Dakota.
