What is the pyramid in San Luis Obispo Cemetery?

Last updated August 23, 2020 by ZagBot Comment

The Dorn Pyramid in San Luis Cemetery is a tomb erected by local lawyer Fred Adolphus Dorn for his wife and newborn son who died within days of each other shortly after childbirth.

A stone on the 25-foot granite pyramid records those lying within as: Cora Russell Dorn (7.5.1868-5.26.1905) and Fred Adolphus Dorn, Jr. (5.23.1905) and an inscription at the front of the tomb reads DISTVRB NOT THE SLEEP OF DEATH.

Despite Dorn Senior’s name and date of birth being carved into the stone in apparent anticipation of being interred there, he later remarried and died in 1940 but was buried in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma. The pyramid was finally sealed with the last two stones in January 2018.
