Long Island City, also known as LIC, is a residential and commercial neighborhood in Queens, New York City, situated just across the East River from Manhattan at the eastern terminus of the Queensboro Bridge.
Once a heavily industrial area, Long Island City was rezoned for residential use in 2001 and subsequently underwent a period of redevelopment and gentrification, becoming one of New York City’s fastest-growing neighborhoods during the decade from 2010.
Long Island City now has a lively nightlife and restaurant scene and is notable for its waterfront parks and vibrant arts community with a concentration of art galleries, art institutions, and studio spaces.
