PSV is the abbreviation of the Dutch name of sports club Philips Sport Vereniging, which translates in English to Philips Sports Union.
PSV was founded in 1913 as a sports club for employees of Philips, when it was a lamp-making business and before it grew into a multi-national electronics conglomerate.
The club is involved in several sports but is probably most well known for its professional football team, recognized internationally as PSV Eindhoven. Although PSV now operates independently of Philips, the company retains links to the club as a sponsor and continues to have the naming rights to PSV’s football ground, the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven.
