How did Whistler get its name?

Last updated December 24, 2020 by ZagBot Comment

Whistler ski resort in British Columbia is named after the whistling sound made by the hoary marmots native to the area’s alpine environments.

Whistler Mountain itself was originally named London Mountain by British naval officers surveying the area in the 1860s. The name Whistler Mountain was officially adopted in the mid-1960s during the early years of its development as a commercial ski resort.
