Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans is open to cars during the daytime in a one-way direction from Canal Street towards Esplanade Avenue.
At night, from around 7 pm, bollards and police barriers close off most of Bourbon Street to traffic and it becomes a pedestrian mall for night-time revellers. Cross streets remain open to vehicles.
Bourbon Street is also closed to traffic during special events such as New Year’s Eve celebrations and Mardi Gras.
